 KiipeilyAreena Ristikko is one of the largest indoor climbing facilities in Northern Europe, located within the Ristikko shopping mall in Helsinki, Finland. The project combines extensive bouldering areas with high rope climbing walls, speed climbing and dedicated training spaces inside an existing commercial building environment.

 

 Designed for a wide range of users, the facility brings together varied climbing terrain, steep overhangs, slabs, vertical walls and board training areas within large open climbing halls focused on flexibility, visibility and high visitor capacity.

 

 Altline Studio developed the overall space planning, climbing wall design and interior concept for the facility, with a strong focus on circulation, spatial organization and long-term operational functionality. To optimize construction costs, the original changing rooms were retained, which significantly influenced the planning strategy of the project.

The wall geometry was developed to support a wide range of climbing styles and difficulty levels — from steep overhangs and dynamic bouldering sections to technical vertical walls and slab terrain. The layout ensures varied movement across the entire climbing surface, giving route setters flexibility across all areas of the gym.
